What is an AI website builder, and how does it work?

Generating a website is the easy part; almost every builder can do it now. The hard part is the second month, when the site is still exactly as you left it and nobody has touched it since.

An AI website builder is software that writes and lays out a complete website — pages, headings, service descriptions, contact forms — from a short description of a business, instead of asking you to pick a template and fill it in. Onelios is one: it builds a trade-specific site from three answers, free, and then keeps writing and publishing pages to it when you ask.

A plumbing website built by Onelios: navy and gold, with the trade and city in the headline, a quote button and a call button.A salon website built by Onelios: plum and gold, a different headline shape, the same quote and call buttons.
The same three questions, two trades. Both businesses shown are examples we made to photograph, not customers.

What does an AI website builder actually do?

An AI website builder generates a complete website — layout, copy, images, structure — from a short description of your business, instead of asking you to choose a template and fill it in. What separates them is whether anything happens to that site afterward.

The category grew up solving a real problem. A plumber does not want to evaluate themes, learn a page editor, or write eight service pages at eleven at night. Describing the business once and getting a finished site back is genuinely better.

But that solves the launch, not the business. A site generated in March and untouched in September is a brochure that quietly stops earning its keep — and a brochure is not what anyone was actually buying.

How Onelios is different

Onelios treats the generated site as the starting point rather than the deliverable. Ask for a service page in plain English and it is written, published to your live site and linked from your services — and every Monday you get a report of what came in. The site grows without you opening an editor.

Say you start taking on water-heater work. You say so in plain English, and a water-heater page is written for your city, published to your site and linked from your services — then the receipt in your feed tells you exactly what changed. Your dashboard also suggests one page for your trade (Water Heater Repair for a plumber), and publishing it is one click.

Nothing is published unless you ask for it, and everything lands in a receipt feed you can read, so you always know what changed and when.

Why trade-specific beats general-purpose

A general AI builder writes copy that would suit any business, which is why so much of its output reads interchangeably. Onelios starts 14 kinds of business from a ready-made list of the services that trade sells, and writes the headline and service descriptions for your trade and city, so a plumber's site does not read like a salon's. Any other business gets a services list the AI writes from what it types.

Generic output is a common complaint about AI site builders, and it is a structural problem rather than a prompt problem. A model with no trade knowledge writes about "quality service and customer satisfaction" because it has nothing more specific to say.

The lists carry that specificity: burst pipes, leaks and water heaters for plumbers, seasonal tune-ups for HVAC, check-ups, implants and emergency appointments for dental clinics.

What you get in the first ten seconds

A website with a services list written for your trade, a quote form that sends you an email alert when someone fills it in and saves every request in your dashboard, online booking as soon as you set your hours, a photo gallery and a reviews section that appear once you add your first photo and your first review, and the structured data search engines need. Built in about ten seconds, published when you give your email, and editable afterward from one screen or by telling the assistant what to change.

The words are written from your trade, your city and your service list, not from a template with your name dropped in. A plumber starts with emergency repairs, drain cleaning, water heaters and repiping; a roofer with roof repair, replacement, storm damage and emergency tarping. Add a page for any service and it is written with what is included and a short FAQ.

It answers at a real address immediately, and you can connect your own domain whenever you like — we verify the DNS genuinely resolves rather than showing you a green tick and hoping.

You can edit your wording, services and business details afterward. Settings offers up to 12 free exports per website in 24 hours: static HTML and CSV/JSON data with gallery links, without photo files or working inquiry, booking and email services.

What it does not do

Onelios does not post to your Google Business Profile, send text messages, let you reply to reviews, create invoices or take payments, track your rankings, or give staff their own logins. None of those works in Onelios today, so nothing on this site claims them. The free invoice template is a printable page you fill in yourself.

Every feature named on this page is running in the product today, and the free tools section shows the same standard: real working tools, not gated previews.

If one of those missing pieces is the reason Onelios is not for you, say so through the contact form. It changes what gets built next.

What does an AI website builder cost?

Durable and B12, two AI website builders, both have a free plan. Paid month to month, Durable's paid plans are $25 to $49 a month and B12's are $24 to $399 a month. Onelios is free right now — building, publishing, connecting a domain you already own, and every tool — with no card asked.

US list prices read on each company's own pricing page on September 12, 2026 (B12 and NiceJob on September 16, 2026): Durable free, then $25 to $49 a month paid month to month; B12 free, then $24 to $399 a month paid month to month, and switching from a lower plan to its two plans set up by B12's team carries a setup fee; Jobber $29 to $529 a month billed yearly, priced by the number of users; Thryv $99 to $399 a month; NiceJob $75 a month for review requests by text and email, or $125 a month with AI replies to reviews. The prices are theirs; the short descriptions are ours. Onelios sends review requests by email only and does not reply to reviews.

Common questions

Is there a free AI website builder?

Several offer a free tier, and Onelios is free: build it, see it, publish it, with no card. Building is free, publishing is free, and connecting your own domain is free too. A small “Site by Onelios” line stays on the free site.

Can I use a domain I already own?

Yes, and it is free. Keep the domain where you bought it, add the DNS records we show you, and we check they genuinely resolve before switching your site over with HTTPS. Until then the free address we give you on www.onelios.com works, and it keeps working afterward.

Do I own the website it builds?

Yes. Settings offers up to 12 free exports per website in 24 hours. You get static HTML pages and CSV/JSON data with gallery links. Photo files and working inquiry forms, booking and email services are not included; those need a replacement if you move to another host.

How long does it take to get a website live?

About ten seconds once you have answered three questions. Nothing sits in a queue waiting for a human to look at it: you type your email, press publish, and the site is reachable that second.

Do I need to know anything technical?

No. Describe what changed in plain language and approve what comes back, or use the edit screen with a live preview. There is no HTML to write.

What happens if I want to change the wording?

Tell the AI what to change in plain words — “mention we are open on Sundays” — and it changes that and says in one line what it changed. There is also an edit screen with a live preview. You are never editing HTML or wrestling with a drag-and-drop canvas.

Is the content actually unique to my business?

The words are. The AI writes your headline, the line under it and each service description from your business name, your city and your trade's list of services. The layout, colors and starting list of services are shared by every business of the same kind, and you can change the words and services afterward.

What if I already have a website?

Keep it. Onelios builds a new site from your own answers — it does not read or import the one you have, so anything you wrote by hand you paste across yourself. Run both if you like, and point your domain at whichever you prefer. Everything here is exportable at any point: the site as HTML, your customers and reviews as CSV.

How much does it cost?

Nothing right now. Building, publishing, connecting your own domain and every tool are free, with no card. We are early and want customers more than revenue; if paid plans come later you will hear it from us first, and your site stays yours.

The rest of the system

Onelios also includes appointment booking software and review management software on the same site, from the same set of answers — you do not buy or connect them separately.

Built for your trade
